Matthew Mei, also known as the Preacher's son, is a regular performer at local venues around the city of Vancouver, brandishing his mix between folk, rock, hip hop, and the blues. This SOP (son of a preacher), has done humanitarian in his youth, having worked with people living in the Downtown East side of Vancouver. It seemed as though Matthew would have followed in his father's footsteps, taking four years at theological education, but decided to take another route. As a young adult, he has worked various jobs including, master baker, carpet layer, and strip club manager. Ultimately those career options could not sway Matthew from his love of music and pursuing a career as a musician. Incidentally, this decision also saved his father from another heart attack.

Inspired to write music and play guitar by a childhood girlfriend, Matthew has taken his passion of music to become a self-taught writer, studio engineer, and producer of his own music. Drawing from his childhood exposure to folk, gospel, and church music to his adolescent preferences of jazz, blues and alternative, Matt has developed his sound to blend those musical influences together. His experiences as a child, to the different jobs held, have given Matthew a glimpse of the highs and lows of the human experience which are incorporated into the music that he writes.
Matthew Mei released his first solo CD in 2006 titled, "Matthew Mei the Preacher's Son". He recorded three songs with Jonathan Anderson, and then finished the other 9 songs out of his home studio in Vancouver. However, Matthew was still looking for band members to play his CD release. As it so happened he ran in to an old high school friend Nathan Mckay, soon after Nate brought in his old friend Matt Plett who played bass with Nate since they were kids. After having a blast pulling of the cd release party, the boys desided to try working together as a band. Not long after, Jeanette Mckay was made her was to becoming a brilliant addition to the band bring killer back up vocals and her own energy to the shows.
Matthew Mei with You Bright Minds was formed. Soon after that a local label offered them a record deal, and for the last year they have been putting some of their best music to tape, and will be releasing their new album April of this year.
